Textual alternative to Pidgin

Maybe use something like bitlbee to expose a bunch of accounts on a
single standard like IRC, since we can then use a variety of clients
like ERC or even Pidgin.

We could expose IRC over XMPP, but I've yet to find a decent (minimal
fuss, reliable, etc.) XMPP client for the console or Emacs.
